Flores is located on an island in Lake Peten Itza and is the starting point for the ruins of Tikal. In pre-Columbian times, it was the main Mayan city of the Itza group. As the last refuge of their civilization, it was conquered by the Spaniards only at the end of the 17th century. The small area of ??the island makes it possible to visit it within an hour's walk.
